Dr Kshitij Mankad
Great Ormond Street Hospital
Dr Mankad is Consultant in Paediatric Neuroradiology at London’s premier Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital. He also provides expert consultancy to University College London Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and to the HCA group. Extensively published and an internationally acclaimed teacher and speaker, Dr Mankad has authored 4 textbooks, 5 book chapters and 82 peer reviewed publications. He is also Senior Lecturer at the UCL, current Visiting Professor to the University of Messina, Sicily, recent Visiting Professor to SickKids, Toronto, and also holds the position of Regional Specialty Adviser for the NE Thames region with the Royal College of Radiologists.
He is the Radiology lead for the Neuro-oncology forum at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and works in academic collaboration with the PET-MR service at UCL as well as the Institute of Child Health, both facilities with a strong focus on multiparametric imaging of tumours at diagnosis and follow up.
Applying advanced neuroimaging techniques in enabling safer clinical practices in Neuro-oncology
Brain tumours are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity. On one hand is the challenge of making an accurate diagnosis to match the WHOs newly published molecular classification, and on the other is the challenge of assessing response to treatment. This seminar addresses these key issues with strong focus on precision medicine, and the adoption of advanced imaging biomarkers: perfusion, diffusion, PET-MR, volumetrics and spectroscopy as complementing conventional imaging.
