Tegan Penton

King’s College London

Tegan is a PhD student based at the SGDP King''s College London. Prior to this she worked as a Research Assistant at Goldsmiths (University of London) on an ESRC funded project examining the utility of non-invasive brain stimulation to enhance social perception and cognition.

Her research is focused on understanding typical and atypical (e.g. in Autism Spectrum Conditions) social perception and cognition. Specific areas of interest include the sense of agency, action perception, motor control, and the use of brain stimulation in social perception research.

She was awarded the Brainbox Research Prize in 2017 which has allowed her to investigate the effects of brain stimulation in autism spectrum conditions.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)

While there have been several important studies on effects of tDCS in neurotypical adults, there have been no studies investigating effects of tDCS in individuals with ASC. Differences in factors influencing outcome of tDCS (e.g. cortical excitability; inter-subject variability) have been observed in this cohort. This talk will discuss the importance of investigating mechanisms of tDCS in this cohort before using the tool as means for intervention.
